Why Your Plantar Fasciitis Keeps Coming Back

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. Many patients receive treatment, feel better for a period of time, and then notice the pain slowly returning months later.

Why does this happen?

In many cases, the original treatment focused only on calming the inflammation, while the underlying cause of the stress remained unchanged.

Plantar fasciitis often develops because of a combination of factors, including:

  • Tight calf muscles

  • Foot mechanics

  • Activity changes

  • Footwear choices

  • Weakness in the small muscles of the foot

When these factors are not addressed together, the plantar fascia may continue to experience the same repetitive stress. This is why treatment in my office focuses not only on reducing pain but also on identifying the movement patterns and stresses that created the problem in the first place. Once those factors are corrected, the likelihood of recurring flare-ups becomes much lower. Understanding the why behind plantar fasciitis is often the key to resolving it for good.
